MAESTRO HONORED
At Maestro Riccardo Muti’s final concert as music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra recently, 34th Ward Alderman Bill Conway presented the world renowned conductor with a special resolution from the City of Chicago.
TRANSFER AWARDS
Columbia College Chicago recently announced the recipients of its Chicagoland Transfer Award. The award provides ten $15,000 scholarships and one full-tuition scholarship to students transferring from Chicago-area community colleges to Columbia College Chicago. The winners are Brandon Barrera, Eren Calderon, Edward Corral, Greta Dondit, Stefanie Jara, Tamara Natour, Angel Negron, Riley Nguyen, Asher Rodriguez-Fernandez, and Sid Tinsley.

STEM ACADEMY
The Exelon Foundation held its annual STEM Academy at the University of Illinois Chicago, bringing together nearly 60 local female high school students from across the Chicago metropolitan area to stay on campus for a week and engage in hands-on learning activities, field trips, and networking opportunities with professionals from Exelon. The academy, now in its sixth year, encourages young women to pursue careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math).

SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED
1-800-TruckWreck has brought its Making a Difference scholarship to the city for the first time, distributing $30,000 this year. Hosted in partnership with the Chicago Urban League, the program awarded 12 graduating seniors $2,500 each in scholarships, renewable each year. Amy Witherite, owner of 1-800-TruckWreck, created the Making a Difference scholarship in 2014 to provide financial assistance to students who have demonstrated leadership in their schools and communities. Local winners are Carolina Perez, Back of The Yards College Prep; Mario Guzman, Thomas Kelly College Prep; and Mia Paulus, Walter H. Dyett High School for the Arts.

Saint Anthony Hospital has won a City of Chicago Climate Infrastructure Grant, which will pay for four new electric vehicles and charging stations for the hospital’s transportation service.
