Sandra “Sandy” Testore (nee Mruk), longtime manager of the Foot Clinic at 1226 W. Taylor St., passed away on Dec. 15, 2023, at age 81 at home with her son, David, at her side.
Mrs. Testore was born to Ann Podbelsek Mruk and Theodore Mruk on Oct. 29, 1942. She grew up on Cermak Road and attended local schools St. Ann’s School and Harrison High School before attending Northern Illinois University.
She and her husband, Bob Testore, met in the local community and shared many mutual friends. They married in 1967 and moved to Oak Park, where they lived for more than 25 years. In 1999, they moved back into the community, settling in the West Loop.
For more than 40 years, she enjoyed managing the Foot Clinic podiatry offices of Dr. Frank Zappa, switching to part time only after turning 80.
Mrs. Testore loved to run, especially along the lakefront, participating in many races. She won first place at the Frank Lloyd Wright Run for her age group at age 77. She also loved to travel and read books—particularly mysteries.
She also enjoyed eating out, music, movies, and spending time with friends and family, who described her as a “great listener” who showed a keen interest in what and how people were doing. They also described her as a great gift giver, known for including socks in her pile of gifts.
Mrs. Testore loved her son, David, and took many treasured black and white photos of him when he was young. She and her daughter-in-law, Maggie, shared a mutual adoration as well. “Lady and the Tramp Bana” was a name given to her early on because she and her grandchildren loved watching movies together during their frequent sleepovers. She was devoted to them and was a grandmother figure to many.
Mrs. Testore was the wife of the late Bob Testore; mother of David (Maggie) Testore; grandmother of Matthew, Anna, and Quinn Testore; sister of Ted (Susan Branham) Mruk; friend of Dr. Frank Zappa; and cousin, aunt, great aunt, and friend to many.
