United Parcel Service (UPS) has a new package facility, located at 3740 S. Morgan St. in Bridgeport.
The 178,500 square foot facility employs about 250 employees, 100 of whom are filling new positions.
The facility’s LED lights and motion sensors reduce electricity use, and reinforced insultation helps regulate temperatures. It services up to 160 delivery vehicles during peak times and can process up to 10,000 packages per hour. Technology-assisted package processing includes an automatic label applicator that uses compressed air to label small packages moving through the system.
Seasonal jobs are available in November and December.
“Our Morgan Street facility will help us more efficiently manage the volume through the Chicago area so that our customers can keep receiving the best-in-class service they are used to,” Ruben Bueno, the facility’s center manager, said.

He added that Morgan Street and other Chicago facilities hire regularly and anyone looking for a part-time job, or to start a career, can apply at UPSjobs.com. “Part-time jobs at UPS are often pathways to a career,” Bueno said. “Over 38,000 part-time employees in the last five years moved on to full-time positions.”
In July, UPS and the Teamsters Union reached an agreement that includes pay increases for part-time and full-time represented positions. Under the new contract, a driver working for UPS could receive up to $170,000 a year in pay, and healthcare and pension benefits.
“Someone hired today as a part-time employee would make $19, but our pending agreement has increases for part-time, as well as our full-time, positions,” Karen Tomaszewski Hill, a UPS spokesperson, said.
The Chicago Transit Authority extended local bus service to aid employees with work transportation, which also will benefit community residents.
In June, the UPS Foundation gave three non-profits—West Side United, Metropolitan Family Services, and Erie Neighborhood House—a collective $1 million grant for workforce development programs to help individuals on the South and West Sides find employment with UPS and other businesses.
UPS also recently opened another facility in September at 7800 Austin Ave. in Skokie, IL.
