Henry P. Pacelli, who grew up in the Taylor Street area and eventually became mayor of Alamogordo, NM, died June 8 at the age of 87 of the coronavirus, according to a family member.
Mr. Pacelli’s family lived on DeKoven Street when he was born and then lived on Polk Street when he was growing up. He and his wife, the late Angela (DeFlorio) of Taylor Street, moved to New Mexico almost a half-century ago when the Admiral Corp. transferred him there. He was Alamogordo mayor from 1979 to 1985.
Among his survivors are his brothers, Ben, a well-known saxophonist who played with several bands in the big band era; Vince; and Carmen. A funeral Mass was at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Itasca, with interment in Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
